Summers in Kansas are usually hot, humid and dry with very little rain. I like summer because it is nice and warm outside and it allows me to layout on our trampoline and tan. I also like going to the pool with my mom and going down the lazy river after we get too hot laying on our chairs.

Kansas is known for tornados but these don’t usually show up in the summer. Remember when I said it was dry above? Well that seems like it wouldn’t make sense because I also said it’s really humid outside. But what I meant was we don’t get a lot of rain during the summer months. Summer runs from the last half of June through the first couple weeks of September. July and August are the hottest months during the summer with average daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. It doesn’t cool down much at night either, dropping into the upper 70s only. We usually get 2 weeks in July and August where temperatures reach around 100 several days in a row. When this happens I stay inside and sit where I can have a fan on me all the time!
It’s not a lot of fun to take walks in the summer here in Kansas, the ground is usually really hard from lack of rain and develops big cracks. The grass tends to dry out and turn brown and there is dust everywhere. I shower every morning anyway but during the summer I’ll shower at night a lot too just to clear off the dust and sweat.

Summer can be fun, but I’m also glad it’s drawing to a close. I’m ready for the seasons to change here at home, get some cooler weather and start enjoying pumpkin spice lattes, my favorite fall drink!
